Fire Accident Claims Lives of LAUTECH Final Year Students on Excursion


In a devastating incident, a yet-to-be confirmed number of 500-level Accounting students from Ladoke Akintola University (LAUTECH) in Ogbomoso, Oyo State, lost their lives in a fatal accident while returning from an excursion to Erin-Ijesa Waterfall in Osun State. The incident occurred on Wednesday evening, September 27, as the students were making their way back from the excursion.


The ill-fated bus carrying the students was involved in an accident that resulted in a fire outbreak along the Ilobu-Okinni-Osogbo road in Osun State. The details surrounding the accident remain unclear at this time, leaving the university community and the affected families in a state of shock and grief.

Lekan Fadeyin, the Public Relations Officer of LAUTECH, confirmed the tragic incident, expressing his deep condolences to the families of the victims. While he acknowledged the loss of lives, Fadeyin stated that he was still awaiting further information regarding the exact number of casualties and the identities of those involved.

"The students organized this excursion to Erin-Ijesa Waterfall as part of their post-exam activities," Fadeyin explained. "It is with great sadness that we confirm the occurrence of an accident during their return journey. However, we are yet to receive comprehensive details about the identities of the affected students."

The excursion to Erin-Ijesa Waterfall was planned by the students following the completion of their first-semester exams.

As news of this tragic incident spreads, the entire university community is mourning the loss of these young lives. The university administration, faculty, and students are coming together to provide support and comfort to the grieving families.

The authorities have initiated investigations into the cause of the accident, and efforts are being made to gather more information about the victims.
