ROAD TO 2023: HON. (CAPT.) JACOB AJAO ADEJUMO, COMPLETE PROFILE.
Hon. (Capt.) Ajao Jacob Adejumo was born into the family of Late Pa Ajao Joseph Adejumo and Mrs Ajao Comfort Ajo-gbe in Lokoja, Kogi State.
Pa Ajao Joseph Adejumo is from Ile Eleruko Aaajee Ogbomoso and Mrs Ajao Comfort Ajogbe is from Ile Obamo Taara Ogbomoso.
Hon. (Capt.) Ajao completed his Secondary Education at Government Secondary School Bwari – Abuja in the year 1988 with eight(8) credits in Science subjects at GCE O’level on completion of his Secondary Education with brilliant performance he could not immediately further his education due to lack of money by the parents who are both petty traders. He therefore moved to Lagos to struggle it out. He was one of those who started Okada commercial riding at Gowon Estate in Egbeda axis of Alimpsho Local Government Area and later molue conductor to Danfo Driver. He was through these menial jobs able to raise money and furthered his education at Maritime Academy of Nigeria, Oron , Akwa Ibom State where he obtained Diploma in Nautical Science (Marine Navigation). On completion he was back to the street in Lagos to continue his menial jobs for survival.
In 1999, the NIMASA bought a training ship to be used for practical study for the cadets of the institution. The authority of the Academy as a mode of selection of cadets to be selected, invited the best students in the last ten years for a critical examination in the Academy, about one hundred and twenty Ex cadets were invited of which Capt. Ajao was among. After the rigorious exercise and examination, Capt. Ajao was among the thirty people selected across Nigeria. He and others joined the training vessel (MV Trainer) at Tincan Island Port where she was berthed.
The cargo vessel on completion of loading departed for Gdynia in Poland. This golden opportunity provided him to know the white men country for the first time. He was privileged to know other countries like Helsingborg in Sweden, Mobile Alabama, Atlanta Georgia, Washington DC, Montgonomery and many more in U.S.A.
On completion of his Cadetship training, Capt Ajao through the help of God being a child from less privilege home met good Samaritans who assisted him to obtain visa to the United Kingdom of Great Britain in the year 2003. He did his underpinning course at South Tyneside College New Castle upon time for his Officer of the Watch Certificate of Competency II/2 unlimited on completion of the course; he was awarded Certificate of Competency by the Maritime and Coastguard Authority (MCA) of the United Kingdom which is the first license to be on officer onboard vessels.
Captain Ajao served on various ships as 3rd/2nd officer until the year 2009 when he returned back to the Glasgow College of Nautical Science Scotland for his Chief mate II/2 unlimited. He successfully completed the course and was awarded Chief Mate unlimited license by the Maritime and Coast guard Authority of the United Kingdom. He went thereafter returned back to Nigeria to Work in his Fatherland. He got a job of Chief Officer with Rangk Shipping and Later Slok Shipping belonging to the former Governor of Abia State, Governor Orji Uzor Kalu. Captain Ajao at the time work in Nigeria but lives permanently in UK.
In the year 2014, the Nigerian Port Authority being in acute shortage of Maritime Captains/Engineers put up an advertisement for vacancy. Hon. Captain Ajao was among the people employed. After about a year in house training, he was posted to the Apapa Port (Lagos Port Complex) and in less than six months posted as Asst. Harbour Master Tincan KLT Port. A position he occupied until the year 2018 when he was uplifted to full Harbour Master and posted to Onne Port and Nigerian Liquefied Natural Gas (NLNG) terminal under his full control in the Harbours Department. While in the NPA, Captain Ajao went to the lowestoft College UK for his Class 1 Master Mariner Oral preparation and examination. On successful completion, he was awarded Master Mariner Class 1 unlimited by the same Maritime and Coast guard Authority of the United Kingdom. This is the pinnacle of his career in the Art and Science of moving a ship internationally round the world (Foreign going).
Hon. (Capt.) Ajao started his political life in Ogun State in the year 1999 although an underground player but active financial support member. He started with the PDP and later moved to ACN and Later APC when the merger was made prior to the election of 2015. He resigned his appointment in Nigerian Port Authority in January, 2019 to contest for the position of MHR in Ogbomoso North/South and Oriire under the Banner of African Democratic Party (ADP) in a fierce competition which he won. He is currently the MHR representing the Constituency 2019 – 2023.
It is worthy of note that Hon. Captain Ajao is the first Master Mariner to be an MHR in the hallow chamber of the National Assembly since the inception of Democracy in Nigeria. His travel experience exposure, academic background and social standard is counting a lot for him in the house and has been the advantage of the dividend of Democracy enjoyed in his constituency today.
