Breaking: Court Discharges, Acquits Ex Gov Alao-Akala of N11.5bn Fraud Charges

A Federal High Court sitting in Ibadan, on Thursday, discharged and acquitted former governor of Oyo State, Otunba Adebayo Alao-Akala of corruption charges.

The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) prosecuted Alao-Akala, Hosea Agboola, a former Commissioner for Local Governments under the administration and Femi Babalola, a businessman, for 11.5bn fraud charge.

InsideOgbomosonews NG reports that the defendants faced 11-count charge of conspiracy, fraud, awarding contract without budgetary provision, acquiring property with money derived from illegal act among others.

The defendants had pleaded not guilty to the charges, the judge ruled that Alao-Akala was cleared because the case against him was too low on credible evidence.
