The Soun of Ogbomosoland, Oba Ghandi Afolabi Olaoye Orumogege III, has expressed his deepest condolences to the Oyo State Governor, Engr. Seyi Makinde, and the families of the victims of the tragic funfair carnival that occured in Ibadan, which claimed the lives of over 35 minors. In a statement, the Soun described the incident as "heartbreaking" and prayed for divine intervention to protect the ancient city from future tragedies.
Oba Ghandi Olaoye in his statement signed by his coordinating assistant on media and Community relations Rev'd Peter Olaleye, the monarch also sympathized with the Olubadan of Ibadanland, Oba Owolabi Olakulehin, urging him to take solace in divine grace and assuring that such incidents would be averted in the future. He encouraged the grieving families to find comfort in faith and beckon on medical personnel to intensify their efforts in treating the injured victims.
The Soun, who is marking his first coronation anniversary, commended Governor Makinde and other stakeholders for their prompt response, which helped to minimize the scale of the tragedy. He also applauded security agencies for maintaining order and preventing hoodlums from exploiting the situation. Oba Ghandi advised event organizers to adopt more proactive safety measures to prevent similar incidents in the future.
As the Soun said, "Do everything to make your environment safe, especially for children. Seek divine intervention to protect our cities from future tragedies. We must come together to prevent such incidents and ensure the safety of our people."
