BREAKING: LAUTECH world renowned professor dies.||InsideOgbomosonews

A world renowned professor at the Ladoke Akintola University of Technology, Ogbomoso, Abass Olajire, slumped and died on Friday during jumaat prayer.

Sources at the university confirmed to InsideOgbomosonews that the Professor of Industrial/Environmental Chemistry died while observing Juma’at prayer on Friday, at Ansarudeen Central mosque along stadium road Ogbomoso.

Family sources said the late scholar would be buried in Ibadan on Saturday, according to Islamic rites.

The 59 years old professor was recently listed among the top scholars in the world, according to a ranking released by Elsevier B. V (Netherlands) and a team of researchers led by Prof. John P.A. loannidis from Stanford University, United States.

He was ranked 128th of 66,925 of the top world scientists in the world in March 2021.

The late Professor Abass who is known for this popular chemistry textbook called Big Abass & Small Abass,was rated as number three on the list of ten top world class scientists in Nigeria, his profile also prove that he rose to become a Professor of Industrial/Environmental Chemistry in the Lautech university in 2004. 


Abass Olajire who became Professor at 42, is a professor of international and national repute, he also remains the foremost LAUTECH Professor with the highest number of publications and citations from Scopus and Google 
scholar databases. 

He is a seasoned scholar with over 100 scientific publications in internationally recognized journals, with 3965 citations and an h-index of 28. He was at the topmost position on the list of the topmost 100 Scientists in Nigeria from the Ranking Web of Universities (Webometrics) in 
2015. 
He had his professional training as an Environmental Chemistry specialist at UFZ Centre for Environmental Research Department of Chemical Ecotoxicology, Leipzig, Germany in 2003, sponsored by the prestigious German Academic Exchange Service (DAAD). He has supervised many Master and PhD theses/ dissertations and he has served as a Postgraduate and an Undergraduate external examiner to numerous universities, nationally and internationally and such as Andhra University, Visakhapatnam, India,Federal University of Technology Akure, Obafemi Awolowo University Ile- Ife, Afe 
Babalola University Ado-Ekiti, University of Ibadan, Ibadan, Nigeria and at the College of Science and Technology among others.
