Nigeria Incentive-Based Risk Sharing System For Agricultural Lending, NIRSAL, trained prospective beneficiaries last week on Anchor Borrower program.

The training was to give indepth knowledge about the program before disbursement of fund, starting from planting stages till marketing stages.

The Programme which was to create a linkage between anchor companies involved in the processing and small holder farmers of the required key agricultural commodities. The programme involve provision of farm inputs in kind and cash (for farm labour) to small holder farmers to boost production of these commodities, stabilize inputs supply to agro processors and address the country’s negative balance of payments on food. 

At harvest, the SHF supplies his/her produce to the Agro-processor (Anchor) who pays the cash equivalent to the farmer’s account.

Certificate of attendance was issued to the farmer's representatives present in the training, others Private and Federal Government agencies present in the training are, Standard Organization of Nigeria SON, International Institute of Tropical Agriculture, Nigeria Immigration Service, Sterling Banks, and others reputable agencies in the country.

Hon Ajao, receiving some of the trainees  affirmed that the Constituency have been captured in NIRSAL database and the farmers in the Constituency will be engaged in several federal Government programs apart from the anchor borrower program.

According to Hon Ajao,the participating farmers from the Federal Constituency would be closely monitored to identify core competencies, which would form the basis to develop further training to start them up with.
