March 23, 2026
The Palace of the Soun of Ogbomosoland has announced the indefinite suspension of Senator Hamzat Ayoade Adeseun from his chieftaincy title as Mayegun of Ogbomosoland
In an official letter dated March 23, 2026, and signed by the Palace Secretary, Toyin Ajamu, the decision was conveyed on behalf of His Imperial Majesty, Oba Ghandi Afolabi Olaoye (Orumogege III), citing what the Palace described as “sustained acts of insubordination, wilful disregard, and persistent disrespect” toward the throne.
According to the statement, the monarch expressed deep concern over what was termed a consistent pattern of conduct by the former senator that falls short of the dignity and responsibility expected of a chief of the Palace.
The letter further directed Adeseun to immediately cease parading himself as the Mayegun of Ogbomosoland in any capacity, pending the duration of the indefinite suspension.
Sources close to the Palace, who spoke on condition of anonymity, revealed that the decision may not be unconnected to longstanding tensions. One insider disclosed that the monarch had, over time, tolerated several instances of alleged derogatory remarks and acts of disrespect.
“Kabiyesi has endured a lot. Some individuals would praise Kabiyesi publicly but go behind to speak ill of the throne causing disunity. The situation has been building for a while,” the source said.
The source further alleged that recent developments may have triggered the decisive action, claiming that the suspended Mayegun was recently captured on camera making comments considered highly disrespectful to the monarch inside the mosque during their meeting.

Another Palace insider noted that the title “Mayegun,” traditionally regarded as a position of strength and honour, has been brought into disrepute by the alleged actions of its holder.
“Mayegun refers to a person entrusted with the responsibility of maintaining peace and ensuring stability within the society or the wider community as the name implies Eni tí ọmu kì ayé gún , especially the alleged remarks caught on camera, contradict the values and respect the title represents,” the source added that this man was one of the elder who came here to prostrate when Kabiyesi asked Imam to resolved with the ayilara family, Embattled Mayegun begged that Kabiyesi should please permit him to settle the imamship saga and promises to revert in a week time, but is it going to 2years. This people got Kabiyesi's approval to revoke the suspension order on Imam which Imam has earlier complied with. But Kabiyesi honoured the now suspended Mayegun Ogbomoso allows him, but today the same man is everywhere calling Kabiyesi unprintable names, why?. History will not forget all this elders troubling Ogbomoso's peace. He added.
As of the time of filing this report, Senator Adeseun confirmed to the press the suspension is true, however when the press asked that he should make a comment. The erstwhile senator said "He will Reply Later" but he confirmed his suspension.
The Palace has, however, emphasized the need to uphold the sanctity, tradition, and authority of the Ogbomosoland throne, urging all title holders to conduct themselves in a manner befitting their positions.
