Just In: Soun of Ogbomoso’s daughter wins africanist award ||InsideOgbomosonews

Professor Oyeronke Oyewumi, a Nigerian gender scholar, has been selected by the African Studies Association as the winner of its 2021 Distinguished Africanist Award. Prof.Ms Oyeronke Oyewumi, the daughter of the Soun of Ogbomosoland, is the first African woman to win the award since its inception. She is a professor of sociology at Stony Brook University, New York. In a letter, Stony Brook congratulated Ms Oyewumi on her achievement. “It is a great pleasure to inform you that the African Studies Association has selected you as the winner of the 2021 Distinguished Africanist Award,” the letter said. The award includes a cash gift of $500, a plaque, and lifetime membership to the ASA. Ms Oyewumi will also receive a complimentary Annual Meeting registration. The Award was created to honour individuals who have contributed a lifetime of outstanding scholarship in African studies combined with service to the Africanist community. A world renowned professor at the Ladoke Akintola University of Technology, Ogbomoso, Abass Olajire, slumped and died on Friday during jumaat prayer. Sources at the university confirmed to  InsideOgbomosonews that  the Professor of Industrial/Environmental Chemistry died while observing Juma’at prayer on Friday, at Ansarudeen Central mosque along stadium road Ogbomoso. Family sources said the late scholar would be buried in Ibadan on Saturday, according to Islamic rites. The 59 years old professor was recently listed among the top scholars in the world, according to a ranking released by Elsevier B. V (Netherlands) and a team of researchers led by Prof. John P.A. loannidis from Stanford University, United States. He was ranked 128th of 66,925 of the top world scientists in the world in March 2021. Governor Adegboyega Oyetola of Osun has explained why the state opted out of the joint ownership of Ladoke Akintola University of Technology, Ogbomoso. Oyetola spoke in Abuja while fielding questions at NAN Forum, a special interview programme of the News Agency of Nigeria. He said the decision was reached after his government weighed the options and discovered that it was more profitable to invest in its own new university than continue with the joint ownership with Oyo State. The governor also cited the huge financial commitment and lopsidedness of faculties of the university as some of the reasons why it exited the joint ownership. NAN reports that the institution founded as Oyo State University of Technology in April 1990 was jointly owned by Osun and Oyo States after the creation of the former on August 27, 1991. Following a viral trending videos which exposed the shoddy execution and renovation of the adamasingba stadium in ibadan oyo state, I cannot help but cry FOUL! Cheap labour and shoddy structures with the life span of a gastrotrich. The N5.5 billion Naira project which money was solely from Loans and deficit was tagged substandard by many observers has drawn a contention line between Governor makinde "Hallelujah singers and set of fellows who thinks something is wrong somewhere". This Project has been tagged differently by observers, as Riverpool,Omiyale, Omiya-stadium among others as the players are reportedly swimming in the pitch due to the bad water drainage system, Governor makinde reportedly left the stadium when the water levels intensifies, and spectators could no longer sit comfortably as many part of the stadium roof got leaking.  My Opinion is borne out of the fact that, no man wishes to buy a new car and have the engine oil leaking out the f
